When looking at your website, it is often difficult to see if your site is engaging the user. You are able to see all of these statistics like click-through and bounce rate, but translating these statistics into something that you can use to better your website can be a difficult task. In this article, we will try and help with good ways to measure the engagement of your site and ways to improve your business’s website.
Scroll depth is a metric that Google Analytics measures. In Google Analytics there’s a built-in scroll depth metric, that measures 90% of all scrolls on your site. What you’re looking at with this metric is the idea of setting individual triggers for scroll depths. You want to know if a user scrolls 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% through your page. If they scroll through the page these actions will become a hit. Scroll depth is a good way to figure out if people are looking through your page.
Call to action buttons are buttons on your site that lead to a contact page, about us page, etc. When a user clicks on these buttons will show if they are actually engaging with the page, instead of just a page view.
Another metric that is helpful for engagement is fill-out forms. On your site, you are able to enter JavaScrpit that will record every time a user fills out a form. With this, you can determine if a potential customer fills out a form for a newsletter, coupon, or anything else in between.
One way to improve engagement is to tie your conversion rates with revenue. Translating conversions with revenue will help you better understand which users are more likely to buy something.
