Just as the internet has evolved over time, so has the process of SEO, or search engine optimization. SEO started with the use of keywords that people search for and inserting those keywords into content such as website pages and posts. Things have changed, however, and it is now important to understand the meaning of semantic SEO.  So just what does it mean and how does this affect your online presence?

Learn about semantic SEO and how it can help you get your content better rankings.

Semantic SEO Means Deeper Keyword Analysis

Having keywords in your content still remains a central part of a good SEO strategy. Traditional keyword research should still be the starting point of good content writing. With that in mind, now we have to take things to the next level by employing Semantic SEO solutions, which is not just looking at a simple search query, instead, it takes a holistic view of what topic is your searcher looking for and what is their specific intent.

By providing the information that answers more than a simple query, your content can take on more value to both your readers and for you as well. Utilizing semantic SEO you can:

  • Rank for a larger number of keywords
  • Potentially rank for a longer period of time

How Do You Use Semantic SEO?

The key to semantic SEO is determining the meaning of WHY people are performing a specific query. This information can be found in SERPs. You can use the information found in sections on the page such as:

  • “People Also Ask”
  • “Related Searches”

For example, when you run a search for “Pop Up Tent” you can scroll down and see the “People Also Ask” section. This provides deeper information than just the simple query for pop up tents, and can help drive your content to address specific inquiries:

By reviewing the "People Also Ask" section in the SERP, you can see detailed questions that other ask, helpful information for semantic SEO.

Additionally, you can use information in the search bar drop-down when you run a search on Google. This can also provide information to guide the topics you cover in your content. You can see this in the example here on a search for “Home Remodeling”:

Using information in the drop down in the search bar in Google can give you valuable information for semantic SEO.

By using the information in these sections, you can narrow down your topics to really address the “why” behind what question a searcher is seeking to answer.
