Almost all social media platforms use hashtags in one way or another. Some platforms may make their tags more important like Twitter or Instagram, but it is necessary to know how to use them no matter which application you may be on.
Tags are able to extend your reach to potential clients that are not even following your business. These tags also create a great method for finding relevant content to share. They group similar conversations together.

With hashtags being so popular on social media, finding out which ones fit your business’s campaign will ensure the best results. Keeping things relevant to your niche will help you find more potential clients that are searching for what you are offering. Doing some research and seeing which tags are popular and trending that is relevant is a good place to start a social media campaign. There are many tools across the internet that help you track popular hashtag trends.
Content hashtags: These tags are associated with the content of your brand’s social media posts.
Trending hashtags: Are tags that are popular at a particular time. These tags are being heavily used by users, this could be because of an event, or breaking news. This shows what people are talking about on different social media platforms.
Branded hashtags: The branded hashtag is a tag that your company has created and promotes as a way of tagging your company directly.
Twitter: Twitter is the place the pound sign got its start. Since it was the first that means you can spam hashtags, correct? Well, not particularly. The ideal number of tags per Tweet is 1-2.
Instagram: Tags on Instagram can be used much more abundantly than Twitter. Instagram is actually where hashtags reign supreme. The optimal number of tags to use is anywhere from 9-15, but 11 seems to be the sweet spot for many accounts.
Facebook: You can most definitely use hashtags within both Facebook, but there isn’t as much benefit in using them as Instagram or Twitter. If you do decide to use tags you should stick around 1-2 tags per post.
